The VMware images of ASG V6.202 were released. They include all previous Up2Date packages and using now the (virtual) LSI Logic SCSI Adapter to increase disk performance. If you just want to glance at ASG Virtual Appliance to get a first impression of what ASG really does, we recommend using the free VMware Player for its ease-of-use.

However, if you are considering using ASG Virtual Appliance in a production environment, or if you would like to conduct performance or load testing with ASG, we recommend using VMware ESX Server, because its network performance is much better. The following VMware virtualization software is supported:

  • VMware Player (screenshot)
  • VMware Server
  • VMware Workstation
  • VMware ESX Server

We included the VMware-tools for enabling all features of VMware VirtualCenter (screenshot). Astaro Security Gateway for VMware includes as usual a 7 day test license and you can request a free home use license at http://my.astaro.com. There is no difference between a "real" ASG installation and a virtual one, so the manual for ASG V6 is the same (on our knowledge base) and also the the Known Issues List (on our knowlegde base). An additional PDF in the ZIP-files explains the installation and setup of a ASG Virtual Appliance.
